And This Will Be a Sign to You

We spent some time out in the Midwest before Thanksgiving and one evening we saw some strange lights in the sky! It was very unusual to us, so it was very exciting, and even a little concerning. Everyone else, that lives around there, was not surprised because they had seen the lights before. The lights belong to a particular satellite company that brings rural areas internet service.

I’m not saying we thought that the aliens were landing, but it was very unusual to see this string of lights moving across the sky. We were able to see them a second night, and it started all kinds of topics of conversation amongst our family. We might have even considered a few conspiracy theories!

But I was looking at the beautiful pictures that we took and captured of this sighting and immediately the scripture came to mind from the book of Luke, “and this shall be a sign unto you.” Luke 2:12

There was a comedian that used to use the saying “well here’s your sign.” It was often said sarcastically and focused around obvious stupidity. But sometimes we need a sign.

Sometimes I need a sign. I need to know what I should do, what decision I should make, or which way to go. Sometimes the choice is not obvious. But one thing is for certain, God has promised that when we need it, He will give us a sign.

Gideon asked for a sign on what he should do. Judges 6. He asked for God to make a fleece that he laid out on the ground wet and the ground around it dry. He needed confirmation after that, so he asked for the opposite and God complied. He is a good father and a loving God and sometimes He knows we need a little extra encouragement.

The wisemen needed a sign to follow in order to find baby Jesus. The star was placed in the sky for them to follow. When the angels spoke to the shepherds, they said, “this will be a sign unto you and will find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes, and lying in a manger.” Luke 2 The baby that the shepherds would find would be the sign to them that The Savior of the world had come.

Isaiah 38:7, The Lord gave Hezekiah a sign that He would do what He had promised. Many times in His word, He says that He will give us a sign when we need it.

Are you praying for something in particular? Are you asking Him for a sign? He is faithful and good and He will answer your prayer. He said “ask and it shall be given to you.” Matthew 7

As long as we are asking, according to His will, He is faithful to answer. ASK Him for a sign today and my prayer is that He will show you the way you should go and give you the direction that you need for your life, for your family, and for your future.

I need a sign TODAY! Do you?

  1. Heather,
What a beautiful thought for this blessed time and season!
I do believe if we humbly ask for a sign from our loving Father that He will provide according to His will. After all, He did send us His only begotten Son! Thank you Lord for all Your heavenly gifts! Merry Christmas to all!
