Covers it All

Recently we had a strange occurrence! We had snow in south Mississippi! Not only did we have snow, we had close to 7 inches of the white stuff and several days of frigid temps. The news outlets all called this a generational event, as the last time this area received this type of weather was 1973! It was beautiful and fun but I am glad it is gone.

Most people loved the snow. With it, came lots of time at home for most people. Roads were closed, as well as schools and lots of businesses. People played and relaxed and enjoyed being with their families. It was a really cool time!

Me on the other hand, it was nice but the logical side of me didn’t like it at all! It was way too cold! It was messy and it made chores and taking care of cattle very difficult for HUSBAND! I cooked and took some pictures and stayed warm by the fire! When it started to melt, it turned everything to a muddy mess in the daytime and a dangerous icy mess at night. Pipes were freezing and it was just extra work!

But I took some time to look at the pictures that I did take. Everything was white and clean and beautiful. You did not see any of the mess! I know that the typical scriptures are brought to mind. Isaiah 1:18 “though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” I am thankful for those pictures and their reminder of His Word, but it also made me think about the snow and what it covered. You didn’t see the leaves and pine straw, you didn’t see the mud or cow manure. You did not see the uneven ground or the tire tracks where someone had gotten bogged down in the field. All you saw was beauty. The snow had covered it all.

I thought about the scripture 1 Peter 4:8 “ love covers a multitude of sins.” That’s what the snow did. It covered up all the ugly of the effects of winter weather. It covered up the muddy ground and cow poop. It covered up all the areas where grass had died and had turned brown. It covered up all the ugliness. I’m thankful that we have the opportunity for His righteousness to cover our ugly. He loves us enough that He covers up all that we are and all that we’ve done with His righteousness. He covers up our poop and mud covered lives; He covers up the dead stuff and He covers up the mess.

He covers it with His blood in a way that only He can do that makes us whiter than snow. So maybe you’re in a place today like I am, where it’s 70 and the sun is shining or maybe you’re in a place that’s cold and snow covers the ground. Either way, be reminded that no matter what state your life is in, His love covers it all, just as the snow blankets the Earth. Isn’t that cool?

  1. In God’s infinite mercy and promises, we can all find His love and peaceful, comforting care. He surrounds us with a protective blanket like the snow in winter. Our Father in Heaven, gives us the beautiful gift of His son, Jesus! We know when the sun appears and melts the coldness in our hearts, we will all be safe and secure in His loving arms!
Thank you, Heather, for reminding us of the promised beauty that the spring will bring in a few short months if not sooner. Preparation is the key in any season and He offers us that special grace to see it all unfold!
