Curiosity and the Calf

I was out, looking at the weaned heifer pen the other day and our dog, Jacey, had followed me. The heifers are in the pasture in front of the house and they came up to the fence, not because of me, but because of the dog. They always say curiosity killed the cat, but this is about curiosity and the calf!

The cows in general find the dogs interesting. On occasion a momma cow may even feel threatened by the dog or have a desire to protect her calf, although Jacey is NOT a threat!

Mostly, the cows are curious. Jacey tends to stay close to us, still finding her courage. So on this particular day, the heifers were all at the fence and she and I were “safely” on the other side.

The little girls wanted to smell and blow and really investigate the dog. They pressed each other and the fence for a closer look. As we walked down the fence, they followed. It wasn’t until after we had been inside for a while that they actually left from the fence and went on about their business.

As they pressed close to the fence though, I heard the still, small voice.

Seek me and you will find me.

Yes, I will, was my reply.

Want to know what God’s plan is for your life? Seek Him. Want to know what your next step is and where He wants you to go? Seek Him.

Jacey and I were simply there. We weren’t there with feed buckets or hay. We were just standing at the fence. Those girls were there to see and smell us. They wanted to find out who and what we were.

Oh if we could could just seek Him and try and find out who and what He is! If we could stop seeking His blessings and the things He does and the things He gives and just go after Him!

He says, “ask…seek…knock.” Matthew 7:7-8, if you ask, He will answer. If you seek, you will find. If you knock, it will be opened. If you go after Him, He will show you who He is.

Are you curious today? I have been seeking Him for years, at times more than others. But the more I seek Him, the more I find Him. The more I know, the more I want to know. And the more curious I am, the more He answers!

  1. So very true! God loves us all and wants us to get to know Him – seek Him, ask for His help and be ready and willing to accept His guidance and goodness and what He has planned for all of us!
