Expectancy

It’s calving season again! It’s the point in time where we wait! Watching and waiting is fun and hard!

We check the cows several times a day during this time of year. One of the cows had her baby 10 days early and one had twins! Both were a bit unexpected! During calving season, you really don’t know what to expect.

Our friends in Canada, calve in the extreme cold during winter. We have been told stories of them sleeping with the cows and in the barn! Some people have cameras in their barns so that they can see the cows and monitor them that way. Our friend Karen posts the best stories about her runs to the barn to save calves in the middle of the night!

The thing about this time of year is the expectancy. You want the cows to calve and you can’t wait to see those babies hit the ground and grow but, you also want them to do it the right way and at the right time. You don’t want them to calve in the middle of the night because who wants to check cows at 2 am? We never want them to calve in a hurricane or thunderstorm, but they inevitably do! You want them to calve when you are home and not out of town and you definitely want them to calve unassisted!

I practically saved a calf’s life this week! We have a group that we have been watching and waiting on and “49” decided to go into labor an hour before dark. If I had not been expecting the calf, I would’ve had no idea the cow was in labor and I wouldn’t have gone over to check. If I hadn’t went, the calf likely would’ve died.

Do we have expectancy?

Are we waiting and expecting for God to move? Are we waiting and watching for a prodigal to return? Do we have expectancy for healings and miracles? Or are we casually sitting by focused on other things?

During calving season, if you aren’t expecting it, you will miss it! If we don’t know the date the cow was bred, we don’t know the due date. So much can go wrong if we aren’t waiting and watching.

If you aren’t expecting it, you will miss it!

If you aren’t expecting God to move, how will you know if it happens? If you aren’t expecting healing, salvation, or a turnaround in a situation, how will you know to celebrate it when it occurs?

Psalms 62:5 reminds us to wait with expectancy. “My soul, wait silently for God alone,
For my expectation is from Him
.” Have you ever been to the white tablecloth kind of restaurant? I haven’t had much opportunity to do that, but I do remember one occasion where we were gifted a meal at a really fancy place. The waiter stood in the corner of the room. He just stood there with a towel draped over his arm and he waited, with expectancy. If your water glass got close to empty, he came directly over and filled it. When you finished with your plate, he quickly came over and removed your plate. He then used a nifty gadget to wipe the crumbs off the tablecloth so that they didn’t fall on the floor and table was clean.

Because he waited, with expectancy, he didn’t miss a thing!

Wait on the Lord today! Don’t just sit around, drumming your fingers on the table or wait while focused on life and other things, wait with EXPECTANCY! Wait, standing and watching, anticipating that HE is about to do something! Expectancy is the key! It’s faith! We can’t miss it when He does it, if we are waiting for it!
