Dry Places & Blessing

The weather here in south Mississippi has been hot and dry. I mean, it’s always hot but this year has been unusually hot. We have has numerous record breaking days over 100 degrees and to add to that, no rain. This area of the country typically sees rain showers pretty often and at our house we have gone about 12 weeks or more with less than an inch of rain. Needless to say, there are some dry places around here.

Husband has been able to get a section of land cleared and leveled for the first time since we moved out here in 2011. Trees are beginning to die and the ground is in some serious need of rain.

A New Heart

Each animal we have is unique and distinctive. Each of them have different markings and color patterns. This little calf has what looks like a heart on its forehead. When I see it, I think about how I got a new heart.

February 7-14 is National Congenital Heart Defect Awareness week culminating fittingly on Valentine’s Day. I have had 2 open heart surgeries, as an adult for congenital heart defects. So a heart shape on a calf or any time “heart” is mentioned, it means something to me! One of my boys even gave me a heart shaped rock in the Smoky Mountains once and I still have it!

Keep Your Eyes Open

Predators are a big part of life on the farm. They are everywhere and after everything. Predators can be our neighbors’ dogs or foxes that like to kill chickens. There is an eagle that like to show up most mornings and hunt fish and other things around the pond. Even our male cat gets in on the predatory action. We keep a constant eye out on the animals and especially babies on the farm. You have to keep your eyes open!
