Promises and Dusty Roads

When the weather took a cooler turn, I attempted to get back to walking a few times a week. The temp was bearable but the dust was not. With every step, a dust cloud was formed. It reminded me of an old song.

“There’s a promise coming down that dusty road” was a popular song by Karen Wheaton when I was young. I couldn’t get it out of my mind on my dusty walk. I could imagine the dust cloud formed by Jesus and his entourage as they walked into town.

Likely, the people couldn’t even see who was coming due to the cloud of dust. Once the group stopped, and Jesus emerged from the dust, I can only imagine the shock and wonder those people experienced. I thought more about what followed.

As Jesus was welcomed into the home, the hosts would’ve offered him a seat and removed his sandals and washed his feet. The hospitality of removing the grime of the walk may have also included Jesus washing his hands and face. I know that is what I would have wanted! All of that before He did what He was there to do.

As I walked around the hill and headed back home, I couldn’t wait to rinse the dust away. Thinking about the host of the home kneeling before the Messiah and washing his feet, overwhelmed me. Maybe their child was sick or maybe they had a loved one who had died, but at that moment HE was seated there and they were washing the dust off of their promise.

Maybe you’ve been waiting on your promise. You’ve prayed and prayed and it probably looks impossible and you may have even given up. But… you have a promise. Don’t forget that.

You have a promise.

All you might can see is the dust and that seems terrible. But keep watching. Promises walk right out of that dust and right into your situation. And when HE shows up, welcome Him in. Wash His feet and watch Him work.

What does that mean? Worship Him. Honor Him. Watch and wait and be ready for Him when He shows up. When He shows up, everything changes.

Wash the dust off of your promise.

You may have nothing but dusty roads right now, but just keep the faith. The PROMISE is on its way!

  1. Heather, you are correct! Sometimes we just have to pick ourselves up, “dust” ourselves off, and look ahead so we don’t miss what He “promised” all of us so long ago! His everlasting love and mercy!
