Let It Rain!

rain gauge on the farm- let it rain

Not sure about your area of the world, but around here, we have had A LOT of rain! Lately, we have been experiencing not only some heavy rain, but some pretty big storms as well. We are generally accustomed to storms; we have lived with hurricane seasons all of our lives, but these storms lately have been quite unusual. We have definitely not been saying, “let it rain!”

During hurricane season 2020, we had about 11 trees that were blown over and had to be stood back up and staked down, along our driveway. After one storm last week (not a hurricane), we had to stand 8 trees back up that the wind had blown over even though they were already staked down. Along with the wind, we have had a lot of rain. Each time the weather has been rough, we have gotten several inches of rain. I have really been tired of the rain, especially.

Here on the farm, rain just makes a mess, especially large amounts of it. Mud makes it rough for moving cattle and feeding. Tractors and trucks make ruts in the mud and then when the weather is dry, time has to be spent to fix the roads and even the pastures and pens. The rain also raises the level of the pond. Currently, the spillway is doing it’s job and the pond is covering the road across the dam. All of the rain has really gotten to be something extremely unwanted.

After some heavy rains this week, the grass was really growing and needed mowing desperately. I got out and tried to mow, especially around the house. Some areas will need a few days of dry weather before they can be cut. There is still a lot of standing water.

Now, mowing the grass is my thing. Over the years, there have been times that husband or the kids have cut the grass, but those times are few and far between. I like to cut the grass and I always have. It’s my time. I get out there on the mower and I can think and pray. In my mind, I get a lot accomplished on the mower. This time was no different.

As I was riding, I was making lists and decisions and getting all sorts of things done! I was also praying about what to write. Lately, life has been so busy that I have found it hard to write and hard to find the time. As I drove past the rain gauge, I looked to see how much we had received. When I looked at the amount of water collected in the gauge, a song immediately came to mind and I began to sing as I continued cutting grass.

“Let it rain. Let it rain. Open the floodgates of Heaven. Let it rain.”

Over and over, around and around, I sang. I let the words sink in. The song started with thoughts of physical rain and how I did NOT want it to rain at all, but they quickly transitioned to prayers for spiritual rain. Praying for rain has been the LAST thought on my mind, but I quickly began to pray and ask for RAIN. My prayers changed to requests for HIS rain in the lives of my children, my family and friends. Not only prayers for blessings, but healing and salvation. Prayers for the RAIN from Heaven to fall in the lives of those around me.

Shower, O heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain down righteousness; let the earth open, that salvation and righteousness may bear fruit; let the earth cause them both to sprout; I the LORD have created it. Isaiah 45:8 ESV

Just like all of this rain has my grass growing like crazy, the RAIN from Heaven brings fruit. All around me I am seeing the fruit of the rain and my prayer is that is continues. I see healings occurring. Where negative reports were given, they are being reversed. Where death was spoken, life is springing forth. The earth, our flesh, cannot help but sprout when the rain from Heaven falls on it.

Maybe your spirit is dry, pray and ask for His rain. Maybe you or a loved one are in a desert, pray and ask for His rain. May the RAIN from Heaven fall on each of us and may it spring forth fruit that not only benefits us but all those around us! LET IT RAIN!

For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven
and do not return there but water the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater," Isaiah 55:10

  1. Heather, once again, you have found in what we usually find ourselves asking for (RAIN) only when we think it is needed to say water our lawn or grow our crops and so on. However we need to ask God to rain His grace down on us and fill up our hearts and souls with His tender love and protection in our lives.
Thank you for helping me to remember all we have to gain with God’s rain!
