Running Out of Gas

four wheeler running out of gas

Cars, trucks, four wheelers, and tractors all need gas! Then there are chainsaws and lawn mowers and everything else in between, all needing gas! Occasionally, like this morning, one of them runs out of gas.

Once it runs out of gas, the rider is stranded. Thankfully this morning, he wasn’t too far from the house. Also thankfully, it was the four wheeler and not the tractor. Some things running out of gas are a lot easier to get cranked back up than others! Tractors and bulldozers for example, take lots of work to “bleed the lines” and all that stuff!

Running out of gas can be time consuming and costly!

These days I feel like I’m running on fumes myself! How about you? Life is busy, and for us there are all sorts of things going on that have us running low on gas, and not just physically but even spiritually!

Can I be honest? Somedays I struggle to find time to pull into the filling station and fill up. Now husband would clearly agree with that statement! Because he says every time he gets in my car, the gas gauge is on E. I’m so busy trying to get where I’m going and get back home that most times, I forget the gauge and he will remind me that I passed a number of gas stations on my way home!

It’s no different spiritually! I get so busy being busy, that I pass right by God’s Word. I can be honest and tell you that some days I just don’t take the time to pull into that “Filling Station” of His Word and get my tank topped off.

Later, maybe as I am trying to quiet my mind to go to sleep, I’ll beat myself up a bit. I want to complain that He hasn’t spoken or that I haven’t felt a Him close. But He whispers, like He always does, “you passed a number of filling stations through the day, and you didn’t take time to stop.” Funny how His words and husband’s sound so much alike….

One day I will learn my lesson and pay attention to the gas gauge. Some days I handle it better than others. But today, I filled my tank. I looked at the four wheeler sitting alongside the drive and heard Him loud and clear. “Seek Me and you will find Me.”

The gas station isn’t going to come to me, but it is right where I know it is. It’s waiting for me. Waiting for me to pull in and fill up! He’s waiting for you today, too. Don’t run out of gas!
