Well, it’s no surprise that hurricane season has started and we have had a tropical depression/ storm already! We aren’t quite sure how much rain we had during the storn, since the rain gauge was overflowing, but it was somewhere around 8-10 inches! There’s a lot of water!
We were doing a little looking around and checking on things and had to go across the pond. Of course, the pond is high and water is going through the spillway. To be honest, driving through the water made me nervous. The water was a bit high and it was moving pretty fast!
As husband went to drive across the spillway, I had him stop so I could take a picture. As always, that still small voice was speaking and this time I was listening.
“When you pass through the waters”
I hear you Lord.
At this time, there were are lots of things going on in our lives. Two of us have had important doctor appointments, one family member was waiting on a surgery date and we had a mission trip quickly approaching. Chaos and life’s business always seem to try to stir fear and anxiety.
“When you pass through the waters”
I hear you Lord.
I’m a visual person and He knows that. Of course He knows that, He made me that way. He knew I needed the picture. Maybe you do too?
So as we drove through that water, I drew in His strength. Not just for the drive across, it wasn’t really about that. I drew in His strength for the days ahead.
The story in Matthew 8 tells us that the disciples were afraid but they didn’t have to be. Jesus was in the boat. The storm was raging, but He calmed the storm for them. He didn’t have to. His presence should’ve been enough. He’s there and sometimes we just need to remember that and that has to be enough.
I spoke with one of my children about the upcoming appointments and all that they could’ve meant for the future. Results didn’t really matter. He’s there. He’s with us and He is in the boat. He is reassuring us and we are reminding ourselves. As the old song goes, “Sometimes He calms the storm and sometimes, He calms His child.”
Be reminded today and encouraged. If you are going through a storm, if you are in the fire, in the flood, wherever you are, you aren’t alone. He’s there. He’s with you.
But now thus says the Lord,
He who created you, O Jacob,
He who formed you, O Israel:
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name, you are mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
and the flame shall not consume you.
For I am the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. Isaiah 43:1-3
